What to do?

So, I have come to that horrible time, where I have to decide what I want to do at University and in which direction I want my life to go. Now I am absolutely terrible at making decisions I can agonise over a something for weeks and still not know what I'm going to do so for me, this is one of the most stressful things ever!! It certainly doesn't help that virtually all of my friends know exactly what they want to do at university and in life in general and that makes me feel 10x worse that I still have no direction in my life. University also means personal statements, which means selling yourself to someone, something that stereotypically us Brit's are terrible at and I am definitely no exception. The idea of rambling on for 4000 characters about how brilliant I am makes me shudder but it's just one of those things that has to be done.

Anyway, for anyone that may be in the same position as me, whose finding it hard choosing GCSE options A-levels or degrees like me these are some tips that I've learnt along the way:

  • Don't overstress - I am absolutely terrible at this. When I realise that a deadline is coming I panic and that just makes everything worse. So start looking into your choices as early as possible and you'll be much more relaxed.
  • Write a list - Now I'm not normally a list person but it does really help. For, instance if you're stuck between 2 or 3 subjects write a list of all the advantages/things you'll gain from taking that subject as well as any disadvantages and then compare these lists.
  • Don't put too much pressure on the decision - This is another thing that I am really bad at, I just load up so much pressure on the decision that I become a bit scared to make it and that makes everything a lot worse. So don't think too much about the consequences because this one decision won't ruin your life if you get it wrong!
  • Listen to advice - Bit of an obvious one; if you're stuck ask for advice. But just because you've asked for it doesn't mean you have to take it. You ask for advice to build up a picture and then you follow the route that you think best.
I hope that this helps anyone whose stuck just a little and good luck!

  1. I really loved this. I totally know how it feels to be confused about life, but you gave some amazing advice. Even though you're confused right now, you seem to have your head screwed on right though so I know you'll find your way soon. :) i wish you all the best, and can't wait to hear how things go!
